MITCA honors a number of individuals each year at the annual Track & Field <\/strong>and Cross Country Banquets.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Below is a list of the Special Awards that nominations are accepted for:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ambrose Award (Cross Country)<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This award is in recognition of the \nrecipient\u2019s outstanding service to the sport of cross country, their \nschool, the association, and the recipient\u2019s community. It is given to \nsomeone who epitomizes the definition of \u201cCoach\u201d.  The \u201cAmbrose Award\u201d \nis the highest honor that MITCA bestows on a Cross Country coach.  \nRecipients are honored as part of the MITCA Hall of Fame.  Nomination Deadline: October 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sweeney Award (Track & Field)<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This award is in recognition of the \nrecipient\u2019s long and outstanding service to the sport of track and \nfield, the association, and their community. It is given to someone who \nepitomizes the definition of \u201cCoach\u201d. The \u201cSweeney Award\u201d is the highest\n honor that MITCA bestows on a Track & Field coach.  Receipients are\n honored as part of the MITCA Hall of Fame.
\nNomination Deadline: December 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MITCA Hall of Fame Award<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Ambrose & Sweeney award winners are \nenshrined in the MITCA Hall of Fame.  These honorees are recognized for \ncoaching qualities that do not necessarily include longevity or team \nperformance.  Additionally, coaches may be inducted in the MITCA Hall of\n Fame by applying or being nominated based on their career coaching \nachievements.  Beginning in 2005, MITCA has inducted up to four people \neach year into the Hall of Fame.  Selection is based primarily on a \npoints-system.  Nominated coaches must be a MITCA member.  See \nNomination Form for eligibility requirements and application guidelines.
\nNomination Deadline: September 1.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Averill-Grant Award<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Established in 1990, this award is given \nto noncoaching person(s) for ongoing \u201cbehind the scenes\u201d devotion and \nselfless contribution of time and effort on behalf of XC and T&F. \nThe award is named to honor Alice Averill and Nancy Grant whose support \nof their husbands\u2019 (Lee Averill, Jack Grant) programs through scoring, \nannouncing and summer camps.
\nNomination Deadlines: October 1 (XC);  December 1 (T&F).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

High School Assistant Coach of the Year Award<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Given to the assistant coach who has \nworked at least five years; is a MITCA member; and has been nominated by\n their head coach with support of the athletic director, an opposing \ncoach or parent. It is possible to receive this award once every five \nyears.
\nNomination Deadlines: October 1 (XC);  December 1 (T&F).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middle School Coach of the Year Award<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Given to a middle school head or \nassistant coach who has worked at least five years; is a MITCA member; \nand has been nominated by his\/her head\/assistant coach, with the support\n of the athletic director, principal, an opposing coach or parent. It is\n possible to receive this award once every five years. Indicate if \nnominee is Head or Assistant Coach.

Finish Line Award<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To recognize ongoing contributions, \nsupport and assistance on behalf of XC and T&F, this award honors \nindividual person(s) and their respective media employer(s) including \nradio, TV, magazines and newspapers.  Nomination Deadlines: October 1 (XC);  January 1 (T&F).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patsy Arpino and Kermit Ambrose Memorial Scholarship<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

MITCA awards three $500 scholarships annually to children of MITCA members attending a full-time college, university or trade school.

Scholarships are awarded at the MITCA Cross Country Clinic.
